The National Weather Service office in Green Bay has issued a beach hazards statement, which is in effect from 11 a.m. through 10 p.m. Saturday.

The warning covers Kewaunee, Door, and Manitowoc counties. Affected Kewaunee County beaches include Crescent Beach in Algoma and the Kewaunee city beach.

Strong south winds are expected to bring waves of 5 to 8 feet to the Lake Michigan shore of Northeastern Wisconsin during the affected times, resulting in dangerous swimming conditions.

The high wave action makes swimming difficult as waves on the Great Lakes occur in rapid succession. High wave action also leads to strong currents.
