A milk hauler escaped serious injury Monday morning when the semitrailer truck he was driving rolled over along state Highway 29 near Sleepy Hollow Road in the town of Montpelier.

The Kewaunee County Sheriff’s Department said the crash occurred shortly after 6 a.m. The 21-year-old Kewaunee man was trapped inside the cab and was freed by rescue crews. He was taken by ambulance to a Green Bay hospital for treatment of what authorities described as minor injuries.

Most of the milk was transferred to another tanker, but about 500 gallons of raw milk spilled into a ditch. Kewaunee County Emergency Management and the state Department of Natural Resources were called.

The crash closed the state highway for nearly five hours; the road was reopened to traffic around 10:45 a.m.
