Firefighters Monday afternoon were back at the scene of a fire that destroyed a one-story apartment building and displaced four families in the Door County town of Union just north of the Kewaunee County line near Duvall.

Two families with children in Southern Door Schools were among those displaced, and the school was accepting donations on their behalf. For more information call the school at 920-825-7321.

Fundraising pages were also set up for the families here and here.

The fire at 112 Rocky Road was in what officials reportedly described as a former business that had been converted into four apartments years ago. The blaze apparently began in a furnace, reports say.

The Brussels-Union-Gardner Fire Department was the lead agency among several rural departments that responded to the fire. The American Red Cross was also assisting the families.
