The city of Algoma has scheduled a public hearing for Wednesday evening regarding the use of Community Development Block Grant funds for a Community, Economic and Housing Development Plan for the city.

City residents, especially those with low to moderate incomes, are encouraged to attend to learn about the CDBG program, help identify community development needs, and comment on the activities proposed.

The meeting is expected to begin with an overview of the federal CDBG program and the city’s planning grant by Quasan Shaw, Vierbicher Associates, a consulting firm, and the process that is expected to include interviews with interested parties, a Citizens Advisory Committee, Community Development Committee, Plan Commission and Common Council.

Attendees will be asked for input on community, economic and housing needs in the city and the various alternatives for city action using the funds.

The hearing, conducted by the city’s standing Community Development Committee and its Citizens Participation Committee, is scheduled for 6 p.m. Wednesday in the Algoma High School cafeteria and commons, 1715 Division St., Algoma.
