The Kewaunee County Board is expected to award the contract for capping the county landfill during a rare Monday night meeting.

Supervisors are scheduled to meet starting at 5:30 p.m. Monday at the county Administration Center, 810 Lincoln St., Kewaunee.

On the agenda is a resolution awarding low bidder Relyco Inc. of De Pere the contract for the final cap construction of the landfill, which is scheduled to close this spring, for a base bid amount of $793,775.34.

Expenditures are to be paid from the Solid Waste Fund and will be reimbursed by the county’s Landfill Closure Trust Fund upon completion.

The landfill in the town of West Kewaunee is expected to be closed in late May and capped. The board voted three years ago not to seek a license to operate what would have been Phase III of the landfill’s expansion.

Blue Water Services of Kewaunee has contracted with the county to open a transfer and recycling station at the landfill site to collect refuse and transport it to other facilities.

Other items on the Monday night agenda include the purchase of two Freightliner trucks and equipment packages to replace aging vehicles in the Highway Department fleet.
