A 21-year-old Kewaunee man was killed in a single-vehicle rollover accident just south of the city of Kewaunee late Sunday night.

According to a news release from Sheriff Matt Joski, a Kewaunee police officer encountered the vehicle entering the city on State Highway 29 traveling at a speed in excess of 100 mph.

“The officer did attempt to pursue the vehicle but was unable due to the continued high rate of speed by the suspect vehicle, which at this time was southbound on First Street,” Joski said. The officer continue south on First Street, which transitions to Hospital Road after it leaves the city.

A short time later, the officer found the vehicle had crashed on Hospital Road approximately 1,200 feet south of Adams Road, leaving the roadway and rolling over several times.

Kewaunee Rescue and the Kewaunee Fire Department responded. The driver, who was alone in the vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The accident remains under investigation by the Wisconsin State Patrol, The Kewaunee County Sheriff’s Department, and the City of Kewaunee Police Department.
