A severe thunderstorm that roared across the area late Wednesday afternoon left thousands of people across central and eastern Wisconsin without electricity, including more than 1,500 in Kewaunee County.

Wisconsin Public Service Corp. reports 882 customers without power in the Luxemburg ZIP code, 475 in Kewaunee, 322 in Algoma and 24 in Casco as of 8:27 p.m.

The storm spawned reports of funnel clouds and tornadoes as it crossed Shawano County heading east and north. While trees and power lines went down and buildings sustained damage throughout the storm’s path, the reports of greatest damage were in the Waupaca, Stevens Point, Appleton and Green Bay areas.

Crews have been working around the clock since Sunday afternoon to restore power in numerous areas of northern Wisconsin with severe weather happening almost daily.
