When the tornado sirens sound across Kewaunee County on Thursday – actually, across the entire state of Wisconsin – don’t worry. To use the familiar old phrase, this is only a test.

As part of Tornado and Severe Weather Awareness Week in Wisconsin, Kewaunee County residents can expect to hear sirens multiple times on Thursday. A mock tornado watch will be issued at 1 p.m., followed by mock tornado warnings at 1:45 p.m. and again at 6:45 p.m.

Kewaunee County Emergency Management is reminding residents to have a severe weather plan in place and suggests using the statewide drill as an opportunity to practice home severe weather plans.

“We care in helping you prepare,” said Tracy Nollenberg, county Emergency Management director. “These mock drills are a perfect time to practice your work, home, or event safety plans.”

The weather forecast is for showers Thursday, especially during the morning hours. In the unlikely event that more severe weather develops the drills will be postponed until the same times on Friday.
