The Potato Peelers, an Elementary Level Service Learning team in Algoma’s Destination Imagination program, held an appropriate community event over the weekend.

The Elementary Level Service Learning DI team The Potato Peelers would like to thank its Community Partner, Kewaunee County Food Pantry, as well as Ken and Pat Marquardt (pictured with the team), and all the patrons of the Pantry who came to the team’s Community Event!
The team members prepared three different dishes made from potatoes and served samples of the dishes to the attendees. Rather than just donating food, one of the goals of the project was to help people learn how to cook these potato dishes, so after sampling the dishes each attendee was given the recipe for each dish along with a 5 pound bag of potatoes and their choice of a potato peeler or a potato masher.
The Algoma School District Destination Imagination teams plan to present their Challenge solutions to friends and family in a public performance and spaghetti dinner noon-3 p.m. Feb. 23 at the High School, 1715 Division St., Algoma.
This will help the teams as they prepare to compete at the BayLake Regional tournament on Feb. 29, in Algoma.
The event will include a silent auction and bucket raffles that serve as a fundraiser to enable the teams to attend Global Finals, the International competition in Kansas City in May.
