Press release

The Algoma Community Band, Algoma High School Concert Band, and Algoma High School Wind Ensemble will present a Veterans Day concert on Wednesday, November 13 at 7:00 p.m. in the elementary school Performing Arts Center (PAC).

The veterans from the American Legion and VFW posts will present the colors followed by the trumpet section playing The Star-Spangled Banner. The high school concert band and wind ensemble, directed by Jennifer Massey, will play two numbers each. The wind ensemble will feature Wayne Schmidt for their closing number “Ask Not.”

The Algoma Community Band, directed by Tom Mueller, will salute two members who passed away this year, Henry Grasley and Rosie Meyer. “Buglers Holiday”, played by the trumpet section, will honor Henry who played trumpet in the band for eleven years. Rosie played trombone in the band (30-year member) and will be memorialized with a rollicking number “Congressional Limited Galop.” We also will honor Bob Kuhn who retired this year after twenty-eight years playing clarinet in the community band.

The three bands will close the concert with a salute to all branches of the armed forces with “Armed Forces Salute” directed by John Nielsen.

Following the concert, please join our veterans and band members for a reception in the school cafeteria honoring our veterans. It will give you ample time to say ‘thank you’ to our veterans for their service and sacrifice so that we all enjoy our freedom today.
