Algoma’s Shanty Days celebration kicks off Friday, and one of its many traditions is a big book sale.

Ever since the Algoma Library Friends formed in the mid-1970s, they have been selling books to raise funds for the Algoma Public Library. For many years the Algoma Library Friends held their annual used book sale on the library lawn during the Friday of Shanty Days.

With the acquisition of their year-round bookstore, the Book Corner, 401 Third St., the venue has changed and their annual used book sale is now held at the bookstore. Another change is that the book sale is not limited to one day, but will extend over the three days during the Shanty Days weekend.

On top of that, prices will be reduced with EVERYTHING in the bookstore selling for half-off.

The Book Corner hours for this weekend are: 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Friday, 9 a.m.-noon Saturday, and 8 a.m.-1 p.m. Sunday.
