The City of Kewaunee and the Kewaunee County Economic Development Corp. (KCEDC) have released a Request for Proposals from developers interested in acquiring and making use of the 3.2-acre waterfront site at 97 Ellis St. along the city’s newly renovated harbor.

According to the announcement, the city’s goal is “to have a private developer or development team create a diverse waterfront redevelopment that enhances the economic core of the community.” The request for proposals indicates that officials are open to projects in the service, retail, residential, lodging and/or commercial fields.

The property is the former site of the Hamachek factory where harvesters and other food processing machinery was built. The city purchased and cleared the property in recent years.

The city intends to leverage the redevelopment of the property to spur continued growth and revitalization in the downtown Harbor District.

The details of the Request For Proposals can be found on the City’s website at under the Waterfront Redevelopment tab. Responses are due no later than Oct. 27 to City Administrator Fred Schnook at and Jennifer Brown of KCEDC at
