The sixth annual “Giving for Sara Food Drive” has begun. The Kewaunee County Department of Human Services is asking the local community for their involvement to help feed the county by making a donation.
The fundraiser to stock the shelves at food pantries across Kewaunee County is in the memory of Sara Malay, who was serving as the Aging Services Unit Director in the Department of Human Services for Kewaunee County when she unexpectedly passed away on Oct. 7, 2013.
“Sara was a woman with a passion for helping others and bringing joy to their lives,” says Jodi Vandervest, adult services worker, Kewaunee County Department of Human Services. “Sara made sure that residents of Kewaunee County had access to good nutrition, especially the seniors.”
Human Services is also collecting paper and personal hygiene products and accepting monetary donations, as part of their initiative. People who wish to write out a check, should make it out to Kewaunee County (receipts will be available for monetary donations) and drop it off at the Kewaunee County Department Human Services, 810 Lincoln St., Kewaunee, WI 54216, between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
This is also the drop-off location for nonperishable food items and other donations.
For every donation, donors can put an ornament on a Christmas tree in the Kewaunee County Department of Human Services lobby. Ornaments will be provided or you can bring your own. Donations can be made now through Dec. 31.
