ALGOMA, WI – On June 22, 1996, the citizens of Algoma celebrated the completion of the Crescent Beach Boardwalk. Exactly 25 years later, on June 22, 2021, the public is invited to attend a special 25th Anniversary Celebration and Ice Cream Social, hosted by Friends of Crescent Beach. The Crescent Beach Boardwalk remains one of Algoma’s most beloved amenities for residents, beach users and tourists alike. After 25 years of providing quality recreation, access to the beach, and boosting growth in the tourist economy, its legacy and impact remain unrivaled.
The event will begin at 6:00 p.m. on the lawn of Legion Park, 620 Lake Street, Algoma. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own folding chairs. The ceremonies will open with the Algoma Community Band, led by Tom Mueller. Speakers from the Community Improvement of Algoma, City of Algoma, Algoma Area Chamber of Commerce, and Friends of Crescent Beach will reflect on the history and importance of the boardwalk. Ice cream sundaes will be served in partnership with the Community Improvement of Algoma. The Community Band will conclude the event with several songs. A group photo of all original Boardwalk volunteers will be taken. Eagle Scout Logan Borths will be present to answer questions and share his process for creating two new selfie stands for Crescent Beach. Rain date for the event is scheduled for June 23, 2021 and will be communicated through Facebook and on www.friendsofcrescentbeach.org/boardwalk.
A campaign was launched in November 2020 to raise $15,000 for maintenance and improvements for the Boardwalk. Friends of Crescent Beach met their fundraising goal in March 2021. Donations are still being accepted
