The opiate crisis is the subject of a documentary to be shown Thursday evening (Feb. 21) in Algoma.
A showing and discussion of the film “Written Off” is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Thursday in Room 108 of Algoma High School, 1715 Division St. Admission is free, and sandwiches and refreshments will be provided.
Live Algoma is hosting the event, and discussion will be led by Tanya Kavicky-Mels, a Bellin Psychiatric Center therapist.
Written and directed by filmmaker Molly Hermann, the documentary chronicles the story of Matt Edwards, a young man from the Northwoods of Wisconsin who battled addiction for 10 years – including working three jobs at a time to make enough money to buy drugs – and left behind poignant journals that he kept during the last two years of his life.
More about Edwards and the film can be found at the website written-off.com.
The film is considered appropriate for ages 13 and older.
