Two new Algoma businesses will be celebrated Friday, June 15, in back-to-back ribbon cuttings and grand openings.

The Algoma Area Chamber of Commerce welcomes the public and chamber membership to Lighthouse Chiropractic, 305 Steele St., and FTS Technology Group, 316 Steele St.

The first ribbon cutting at 11 a.m., featuring Lighthouse Chiropractic, will be the public’s opportunity to meet Dr. Amber Vanden Avond and her family with celebrations including cake, snacks and prizes including a framed Pierhead Lighthouse photograph by Stephan Anderson-Story.

Vanden Avond earned her Doctorate of Chiropractic degree from Northwestern Health Sciences University. She uses advanced chiropractic techniques to restore proper nervous system function and proper joint biomechanics. Vanden Avond said she is dedicated to treating a variety of health conditions in people of all ages with special emphasis on rehabilitation and exercise, maternal and family health, geriatric health, occupational health, and nutrition.

A native of Northeast Wisconsin who grew up in Champion, Vanden Avond is a graduate of Luxemburg-Casco High School and the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay. Outside the clinic, Dr. Amber enjoys walking, gardening, cooking, and spending family time with her husband, Rory, and children, Zoey and Ozzie.

The second ribbon cutting at noon, featuring FTS Technology Group, , will celebrate owner Ryan Hoffmann’s relocation to Steele Street as he expands his on-site services, including computer sales & repair, audio/visual, security cameras, and more.

Hoffmann also provides tech and network support to agricultural entities and small-to-medium businesses stretching from the lakeshore to Beaver Dam.

FTS Technology Group was originally started as Farm Technology Services LLC and began as a dinner-table conversation with Ryan’s uncle Rod, a long-time dairy farmer. Throughout the discussion, it became apparent that there was a need for a technology support company that specialized in the farming industry and its related businesses. By the time the conversation ended, the idea had formed into a reality.

Hoffmann originally started working with computer networks in 1999 and throughout those 17 years, he has worked with technologies such as wireless networks, telephone systems (including Voice over IP), security and camera systems, accounting systems, email and web servers, server-based applications, server virtualization, process control, and business continuity planning.

Algoma Area Chamber Director Sara Krousesaid she is looking forward to the double ribbon cutting.

“Both Ryan and Amber are the type of business owners we love to see establish themselves in Algoma – they chose to hold their openings the same day to strengthen each other and demonstrate how our business community works together,” Krouse said. “Even before Amber opened her doors to her new office, she was in contact with Ryan about services and they masterminded this approach together.”

Algoma is experiencing a growth spurt for new businesses and offices, Krouse said: Four openings were celebrated in May, and at least one other is planned in July.

“We are seeing an incredible amount of new people setting down roots and taking risk in our city,” she said. “The Chamber ceremonial scissors are getting quite a workout! Our existing businesses are making incredible improvements to their facilities and services; visitor and residents are constantly commenting on the changing landscape. We couldn’t be prouder of what’s going on in our area and invite other people to come explore if Algoma is the right fit for their business.”
