Eugene Cleveland was appointed Tuesday to the vacant 3rd Aldermanic District seat on the Algoma City Council.
Cleveland, an assistant project manager at CTIBella, will fill the second year of former Alderman James Barlow’s term and will be eligible to run for election in his own right in April 2018. Barlow resigned because he was moving to Oshkosh.
CTIBella, a division of CTI Hospitality Inc., designs and manufactures high-end custom furniture for the contract furniture market. Cleveland was the only candidate for the open seat, but Mayor Wayne Schmidt spoke highly of him as a candidate – without mentioning him by name – at the council’s March meeting.
During the council’s organizational meeting Tuesday, Alderman Lee Dachelet was elected City Council president, after the four council members elected April 4 – Dachelet, Bruce Charles, Jacque Wiese and Mitch Groessl – took their oaths of office.
