The popular website’s travel blog Viewfinder has named Algoma the most beautiful town in Wisconsin.

The designation is included in a new blog post that lists what Expedia concludes are the most beautiful towns in all 50 states.

“Because beauty is impossible to define, we took into account all kinds of aesthetically pleasing characteristics, from historical attractions to natural landscapes,” the post says. “We all know major places like New York City and San Francisco exude beauty, so we scoured through villages, towns, and cities to find lesser-known destinations that will make you sigh with wonder.”

Of Algoma, Expedia says:

“Of the most beautiful towns in Wisconsin, Algoma, the Park of Flowers, caught our eye. It’s tucked along the shores of Lake Michigan, boasting buildings and homes that are more than 100 years old. Stare out at the shimmery waters at Crescent Beach and catch sight of the red Algoma Pierhead Lighthouse, while meandering along the boardwalk. During your visit, slip into von Stiehl Winery, the state’s oldest licensed winery, which is located in a Civil War-era building, with a terrace overlooking the lake.”

The listing puts Algoma in a group that also includes Stowe, Vermont; Winona, Minnesota; Munising, Michigan; and Rockford, Illinois.

The Algoma Area Chamber picked up on the honor, and in its own blog post notes:

“Algoma is home to the best sport-fishing on Lake Michigan, one of the largest parades in Northeast Wisconsin, concerts all summer, festivals including Shanty Days and Soar on the Shore kiting event, a growing art sceneWisconsin’s oldest winery and more!

“The Visitor Center is just a hop and a skip from downtown so visitors can walk along the beach or park in town for free and walk to dozens of shops and restaurants. Lake Michigan and the Pierhead lighthouse are almost always within view.”
