A Forestville man was killed and a passenger injured in a one-vehicle crash on icy state Highway 54 on Saturday (Dec. 12).
Thomas P. Geldmeyer, 54, died shortly after the accident, which occurred at about 7:09 p.m. near the intersection with South View Lane in the Town of Casco.
Kewaunee County Sheriff Matt Joski said the driver of a 2001 Chevy SUV was traveling westbound on Highway 54 when it encountered an icy portion of road surface. Geldmeyer lost control of the vehicle, and it crossed into the opposite ditch, where it rolled numerous times. Geldmeyer was ejected, and his passenger, a 55-year-old Forestville woman, was trapped inside and extricated by units of the Luxemburg Fire Department.
Both were transported by Luxemburg Rescue to a medical facility in Green Bay, where Geldmeyer died a short time later. The passenger’s injuries were described as non-life threatening.
Casco-Lincoln-Red River First Responders were also on scene to render treatment to those involved. Joski said the accident remains under investigation by the Kewaunee County Sheriff’s Department.
