This spring the Kewaunee lighthouse will undergo repair and restoration as part of the waterfront redevelopment project in the city. The Kewaunee lighthouse is listed on the Wisconsin Historical Register, and eligible for the National Register. The windows have been protecting the lighthouse since 1909 and need repair to the original condition so that the lighthouse can remain on the register.

The nonprofit, Friends Of The Kewaunee Pier Head Lighthouse will begin accepting donations Thursday to complete the window restoration. Their goal is $30,000.

“It’s a complicated restoration,” said Jayne Conard, president of the Friends. “There will be scaffolding on the outside of the lighthouse, and there are 30 windows to repair or replace.”

The windows are made of wood, and many are covered on the outside. The windows will include an aluminum storm when finished.

Donations may be sent to the Kewaunee Nicolet Bank, 519 Main St., Kewaunee 5216
