An open house Thursday will show off new pet-friendly lofts and raise money for an effort to buy a pet microchip scanner for the city of Algoma.

The Algoma Area Chamber of Commerce invites the public and chamber membership to an open house and pancake fundraiser at The Haven, 112 Steele St., from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday.

Specializing in pet-friendly loft rentals, The Haven serves a niche of families and tourists traveling with their most beloved companions. A pet owner herself, owner Sara Krouse was inspired to join forces with the group of teen activists including Sadie Olejniczak, Bailey Kostka and Xadria Duffeck who are working to raise funds for a pet microchip scanner for the city of Algoma.

Visitors of The Haven Open House will be treated to a free mini-pancake breakfast cooked and served by the teens and Krouse’s family. Any donations given for pancakes will be routed directly to the microchip scanner program.

Guests are invited to browse all the units of The Haven while enjoying their pancakes, refreshments and other light appetizers.
