Joe Steiner, left, of the Kewaunee Rescue Auxiliary presents an automated external defibrillator (AED) to Brian Huben of the Kewaunee County Historical Society board, for the society’s History Center.

An AED is a portable, life-saving device designed to treat people experiencing sudden cardiac arrest, a medical condition in which the heart stops beating suddenly and unexpectedly. “We are excited to have this device available for our volunteers and visitors,” the society said in accepting the donation. “The use of an AED and CPR early on during a medical event can mean the difference between life and death.”

History Center volunteers will be receiving training on how to operate the AED.
