One Kewaunee County cheesemaker earned a Best in Class award, and another picked up a second and third, at the World Championship Cheese Contest, which concluded Thursday in Madison.

Pat Doell, who is associated with Agropur in Luxemburg, earned a first place in the Smoked Provolone competition.

Ponderosa Farmstead Mini-Whips

Ben Shibler of Ponderosa Dairy Products in Kewaunee won a second award in the Natural Snack Cheese Category for Ponderosa Farmstead Whips and a third award for Farmstead Mini Whips.

The competition drew hundreds of entries from around the world. The grand champion cheese was a sheep’s milk cheese from Savencia Cheese of New Holland, Pennsylvania and France.

The World Championship Cheese Contest, initiated in 1957, is the largest technical cheese, butter, and yogurt competition in the world. For more information, including complete results for all entry classes, visit
