The Build the Future Foundation has announced this year’s four additions to the Kewaunee High School Wall of Fame.
Dennis and Deb Shimanek, Jeff Kassner and Tom Kleiman are being honored as the foundation hosts its annual Wall of Fame banquet to honor four outstanding graduates of Kewaunee High School
The banquet is scheduled for Sunday evening, April 9, at J W’s Place in Slovan (rural Casco). Tickets are $30 and are available from Nicolet Bank, Bank of Luxemburg, the Novak Agency, or any Build the Future Foundation member.
As is the custom, the honorees will be introduced in separate news stories.
Dennis graduated from Kewaunee High School in 1976. While in high school, he was a member of numerous extra-curricular activities such as; the American Field Service, Ski Club, FFA, Letterman’s Club and wrestling. In addition, he was also a Trees for Tomorrow recipient.
Following graduation, Dennis attended NWTC from 1976-1978 majoring in Drafting and Design. In 1976 Dennis began working at the Kewaunee School District as a custodian; in 1999 he was promoted to buildings and grounds director. While in that job Dennis held numerous certifications that enhanced the safety, security and well-being of the students and staff. Dennis retired from the School District in 2013.
Dennis has always strived to make our community the “perfect” place to live and grow. He has been a member of the Kewaunee School Board since 2014, the School Board Build the Future representative since 2016. Dennis has been a member of the Kewaunee Young People’s Theater/Hooray for Hollywood since 1999 and the KewauneeGolf Challenge since it was established 15 years ago. These two organizations donate thousands of dollars yearly to our local community and the Kewaunee School District.
Dennis is especially proud of being an instrumental part of developing Kewaunee 3D archery, which promotes participation and safety to the sport of archery. This group strives to involve youth into the lifetime sport of archery.
Dennis is an active member of the Community Congregational Church in Kewaunee, where he serves on the Board of Trustees, currently assists with maintenance and upkeep of the church, and previously served as Deacon.
Dennis has been married to Deborah since 1978. They have two children, Denny and Shaun. Denny and his wife, Samantha, have three children, Abby, Hailey and Devin. Shaun and her husband, Jacob, also have three children, Conner, Ellianna and Noah.
