The city of Kewaunee has decided to contract with Harter’s Disposal garbage and recycling services for three years beginning Jan. 1. The agreement includes no cost increase for the services in 2021, unless fuel prices exceed $4 per gallon.
According to a news release from Mayor Jason Jelinke, Harter’s will provide weekly pickup of garbage, and every-other-week pick-up of recycling. Both garbage and recycling totes will continue to be 95 gallons, just as before. Harter’s is also offering curbside pickup of large household items at the customer’s expense on a monthly basis. The customer just needs to call Harter’s to schedule a pickup and for pricing.
Harter’s plans to provide each Kewaunee customer with new garbage and recycling totes the weeks of Dec. 14 through Dec. 23. The last pickup of garbage only by Advanced Disposal will be Dec. 31. Therefore, there will be a period when customers will have four totes.
Between Dec. 31 and Jan. 15, customers are asked to leave their empty Advanced Disposal totes curbside. Any Advanced Disposal totes containing recycling after Dec. 24 or garbage materials after Dec. 31 will not be picked-up.
The garbage and recycling pickup days will change once Harter’s takes over, from Thursdays to Mondays. Harter’s first pickup of both garbage and recycling is expected to be Monday, Jan. 4, 2021. Harter’s will perform garbage-only pick-up on the following Monday, Jan. 11, then garbage and recycling pickup again on Jan. 18. That rotation will follow going forward.
The city plans to provide a calendar of garbage and recycling pickup dates with this month’s property tax bill and on the city website and Facebook page.
