The general public will not be able to attend Luxemburg-Casco High School sports events this fall because of concerns over the spread of the COVID-19 virus.

As of Tuesday (Sept. 23) the state Department of Health Services was reporting 428 positive tests for the coronavirus since mid-March, an increase of 240 since Sept. 1.

The L-C School District announced the restrictions in a letter to the community:

Due to COVID-19, several changes have been made in regards to athletics to help mitigate the spread of the virus. Our number one priority is to keep our students and staff safe and to keep schools open for our students to receive in-person instruction (if the family is choosing this option). Our priority for our athletic department is to keep our student athletes to compete for the entirety of their fall season. In order for these things to happen, several changes have been made to give our students the best chance to compete all season.

Luxemburg-Casco High School competes in the North Eastern Conference for their WIAA sports. The conference schools have spent many hours considering ways to help reduce the spread of COVID-19. The conference understands some of these decisions will not be favored, but know that these decisions were made with the goal of having our student athletes being able to compete for the entirety of their fall season.

One of the significant changes that has been made is in regards to spectators. The conference has decided to limit spectators, again, to help reduce the spread of the virus. For each sport (dance team, girls golf, cross country, volleyball, boys soccer and football) each athlete will only be allowed two spectators for each game. For dance team, boys soccer, volleyball, and football, a pass list will be created before each game and the two spectators will be required to check in at each game. Only the spectators that are on this list will be allowed to enter the game. We ask that you follow these guidelines and do not try to attend games. You will be asked to leave and will not be able to stay for the games.

Unfortunately, this means the general public will not be allowed to attend our games in person for the fall 2020 sports. Knowing the disappointment this is for our fans, we will be streaming volleyball, soccer and football games on our YouTube channel for home games and most of the other schools will also be providing a live stream and we will send out information where those will be available once they have all been finalized. Thank you for your understanding with this difficult decision and hope you will continue to support our student athletes by catching their games on the live streaming that will be available.
