The pilot in the crash of a Cessna 441 in Carroll County, Indiana, on Thursday was a certified commercial pilot and flight instructor who originally was from Marquette, Michigan.

Nathan Saari, 35, recently moved to Bellevue, a family friend said.

Saari was killed along with John Pagel, owner of Pagel’s Ponderoda Dairy, and his son-in-law and dairy maintenance manager Steve Witcpalek, when their plane crashed in a field about 20 minutes after departing Indianapolis on a return flight to Green Bay.

The Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board had investigators at the scene Friday.

The Swanson-Lundquist Funeral Home of Marquette is assisting the Saari family, with services scheduled for 11 a.m. Friday at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Marquette. A complete obituary was expected to be released by Tuesday.

Services for Pagel and Witcpalek were pending as of Sunday night.
