Retiring Kewaunee County Chief Deputy David Cornelius received a salute from the entire Sheriff’s Department on Friday (Jan. 22), as he signed off duty for the last time.
“It’s been an honor and a privilege to serve this community for the last 26 years,” Cornelius said in a radio message that was preserved in a Facebook video. “God bless, be safe, thank you.”
The dispatcher responded with a thank you to the longtime deputy.
“You have committed over 25 years of selfless service to the citizens of Kewaunee County,” the radio operator said. “Our community thanks you, the department thanks you, and all the people whose lives you have protected thank you. You have been a protector, a mentor, a role model and a leader. It has been an honor and a privilege to serve with you.”
Jason Veeser succeeds Cornelius as the county’s new chief deputy.
