The poured-in-place surface was finally applied to the new all-inclusive playground at Kewaunee Elementary School, and the community is set for a grand opening.
An honorary ribbon-cutting ceremony is scheduled for 3 p.m. Wednesday at the playground, which was assembled earlier this month. The school district says the entire community is invited.
This is Phase I of the all-inclusive playground, so named because it’s designed to be used by children of all abilities. For example, the design includes ramps and swings for wheelchairs.
Lee Recreation was awarded a $103,506 contract last September to build the playground. Fundraising for the project has been ongoing for about two years.
