The Kewaunee County polling site Polco has added a question about the planning process for a new public safety facility.

Registered users will be able to weigh in on the question, “Are you supportive of Kewaunee County’s jail planning process; do you have any concerns or suggestions?”

The County Board recently approved a Request for Qualifications to select a professional who would help guide the county through a jail study, beginning with a needs assessment.

The existing public safety building and jail was built 50 years ago to house 22 inmates and the average daily population is closer to 34, the resolution stated.

No decisions will be made until a needs assessment has been completed, discussed and thoroughly debated, County Administrator Scott Feldt has said.
