If you happen to be driving along some of the main roads here in Kewaunee County and notice some white stripes in the driving lanes, there is a reason for them being there. And no, it wasn’t a line painter gone wild. 😉

New Algoma Public Works Director Matt Murphy let us know that this is an initiative the county highway department is doing for winter driving safety.

The salt brine is laid down in advance of snow/freezing rain. Once the precipitation begins, the brine activates and acts as an anti-icing agent.
