Attendees of the Algoma Shanty Days “Celebration of the Lake” will be treated to what is believed to be the area’s first drone show on Sunday, Aug. 12.
The performance is scheduled for sundown after local favorite band Spice plays from 4:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the main grounds.
The show will feature 25 drones and will last between 10-15 minutes. It will be set to music (sponsored by WDOR 93.9 FM) and will showcase the history of flight and the U.S. Military.
“The Shanty Days Committee and the Chamber are so excited to offer something completely new for our area,” said Algoma Chamber Executive Director Sara Krouse. “We expect many people have never seen a drone show before. The committee never stopped working to find a replacement for the fireworks, and we are confident the drone show will be the grand finale to a great Shanty Days weekend.”
The recommended viewing area is in green on the map above. Those wishing to listen to music are asked to tune into WDOR-FM 93.9 just before sunset. Internet live stream of the WDOR broadcast is not recommended.
No traffic or persons (not inside a parked car or home) will be permitted in the orange safety zone. Police will be strictly enforcing this rule. Although it’s expected the show may be seen up to five miles, seating in the recommended area will ensure full viewing effect.
Shanty Days is sponsored by Olson Fabrication, CTI Hospitality, WS Packaging Group, Ahnapee Construction, Anderegg Painting, Bank of Luxemburg, FTS Technology Group, Nicolet National Bank, Door County Medical Center, von Stiehl Winery and Ebert Enterprises.
