A popular roadside tavern that has stood at the corner of Kewaunee County Road J and Manitowoc Road in Stangelville for years was destroyed by fire early Friday morning.

The Denmark Fire Department and numerous Kewaunee County department were called around 3:50 a.m. to Sheila’s II, N2103 Manitowoc Road.

The structure was engulfed in flames when firefighters from several departments arrived. Bar owner Patti Jurczykowski escaped safely with the help of a responding officer, but a family dog died in the fire.

Her son Tom Jurczykowski posted this thank you message Friday evening:

My family and I would like to thank everyone who helped my mother out today. Thank you to the neighbors for calling it, the firefighters and police officers who bravely came out to fight the fire and a very special thank you to Officer Salentine for getting her out safely. We would also like to thank everyone who has reached out during this tragic time. All of the love and prayers are very much appreciated. In the next few days when things become more clear and everything calms down, we will be reaching out to all of the amazing people who have offered a kind hand to help with clean up/ anything they can help with. It’s amazing how such a small community can have so much love.

And a special thanks to all the friends and family that showed up today with love and support.

Lots of memories were made at Sheila’s Bar, we will see what the future holds for future memories there.

Don’t take anything for Granted.
