Only one of four Luxemburg-Casco wrestlers advanced in the first round of the state wrestling tournament Thursday night (Feb. 27), but he did so in convincing style.

Junior Travis LeGrave joins three other Spartans who drew first-round byes into the WIAA Division 2 quarterfinals which begin around 11:15 a.m. Friday in the Kohl Center in Madison. Kewaunee’s Jake Severin is also competing in Friday’s quarterfinals.

LeGrave pinned James Roche, a senior from Columbus, at the 4:32 mark of their 220-pound match, to run his personal record to 29-13 for the year. It was only the fifth loss of the year for Roche (32-5).

Other L-C results:

Sophomore Hunter Joniaux (34-14) lost a major decision 10-2 to Devin Gore (29-10) of Plymouth, at 120.

Junior Isaac Blohowiak (22-16) was pinned at 2:53 by Payton Kostka (41-3), a junior from Regis/Altoona, at 152.

Junior Kyle Kroll (41-10) lost a 1-0 nailbiter to Trevor Daffinson (29-5) of Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau/Melrose-Mindoro, at 285. Daffinson’s second-period escape was the only point of the match.
