Three Luxemburg-Casco wrestlers have made it to the championship match of the WIAA Division 2 state tournament at the Kohl Center in Madison.
106 – Charlie Stuhl (Ellsworth) defeated Lucas Joniaux (L-C, 35-13), fall 1:20. Joniaux will wrestle Quintin Gerhmann (35-6) of Jefferson in the consolation bracket Saturday morning.
113 – Bryce Bosman (L-C, 45-3) won a 7-5 decision over Isaac Wiegl of Belmont/Platteville and will vie for the state championship Saturday evening against Joey Bianchi (40-5) of Two Rivers.
152 – Devan Vandenbush (L-C, 33-11) was defeated by Devin Bahr (37-0) of West Salem/Bangor and will wrestle Jake McClintock (Lakeland, 41-10) in the consolation semi-finals Saturday morning.
170 – Dalton Smerchek (L-C, 41-6) pinned Waupun senior Carter Veleke (44-3) in 3:34. He will wrestle Elijah Alt (River Valley, 43-1) for the state title Saturday evening.
220 – Nate Lloyd (L-C, 39-14) lost a 2-0 decision Dakotah Daffinson (41-6) of Melrose-Mindoro/G.-E.-T in the semis and will face Joshua Carroll (Spooner, 39-8) in the consolation semi-finals.
285 – Phil Rasmussen (41-8) earned a 3-2 decision over Adam Kinyon of Lomira (43-7) and will wrestle for the state championship Saturday night against Cody Jacobson (44-2) of Ripon.
Nathan Ronsman of Luxemburg-Casco (38-10) won his first wrestleback match Friday afternoon against Braden Maertz (33-5) of Kewaskum. The Spartans sophomore earned a 3-1 decision and the right to wrestle again Saturday morning in the semi-finals of the third-place bracket.
Six L-C wrestlers have advanced to Friday night’s state semi-finals in Division 2.
In Division 3 Kewaunee’s Jesse Steinhorst (39-9) advanced to Saturday morning with a 6-2 decision over Nathan Roach (35-4) of Ladysmith at 138.
At 126 the Storm’s Cam Hanrahan (42-6) lost a 6-0 decision to Derek Marten (37-5) of Stratford.
Luxemburg-Casco wrestler Lucas Joniaux has advanced to the semi-finals of the WIAA Division 2 wrestling tournament at 106 pounds.
Joniaux, a freshman, defeated Viraoqua senior Jansen McLelland 7-0 in a quarterfinal match Friday morning at the Kohl Center in Madison to run his season record to 35-12.
Also advancing was sophomore Bryce Bosman (44-3), who pinned Jack Marley of Melrose-Mindoro/Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau (40-8) at the 4:57 mark of their match at 113.
Nathan Ronsman (37-10) lost a 7-2 decision to Aidan Medora (37-3),of St. John’s Northwestern Military Academy/Brookfield Academy. Ronsman enters the wrestleback bracket Friday afternoon against Braden Maertz (33-4) of Kewaskum.
Junior Devan Vandenbush (33-10) earned a 10-8 overtime victory over senior Sam Burzynski (39-5) of Stanley-Boyd/Owen-Withee. Vandenbush wrestles Devin Bahr, an undefeated (36-0) senior from West Salem/Bangor, in a Friday night semi-final.
Veteran senior Dalton Smerchek (40-6) earned a 3-0 decision at 170 over Tyler Hannah (43-8) of Viroqua. His Friday night opponent is Waupun senior Carter Veleke (44-2).
Nate Lloyd (39-13) earned a 3-1 decision over Tyler Burt of Turner at 220 and will face Dakotah Daffinson (40-6) of Melrose-Mindoro/G.-E.-T in the semis.
Phil Rasmussen at 285 (40-8) prevailed over Nick Rueth (39-7) of Neillsville/Greenwood/Loyal in a 3-2 match that lasted into an ultimate tiebreaker round (second overtime). He will wrestle senior Adam Kinyon of Lomira (43-6) on Friday night.
In Division 3, Kewaunee’s Cam Hanrahan (42-5) will wrestle Derek Marten (36-5) of Stratford in Friday afternoon wrestlebacks. Hanrahan dropped a 7-4 decision to Andrew Gunderson (31-6) of Cadott.
At 138 Jesse Steinhorst (38-9) sustained a hard-fought 6-4 overtime loss to Sammy VanStraten (39-3) of Shiocton. Steinhorst faces Nathan Roach (35-3) of Ladysmith Friday afternoon.
