The bad news: The photo accompanying this story is not recent, and Kewaunee County’s Winter Park is closed for the season.
The good news: The tubing, skiing and snowboarding hill just west of the city of Kewaunee set an attendance record of 11,073 visitors this season.
The county Promotion & Recreation Department Department reported 10,004 people spent time snow tubing at the park and 1,069 visitors went skiing and snowboarding while the facility was open Dec. 23 to Feb. 24.
”This was our first season with the Magic Carpet (ski lift) in operation on our snow tubing hill, and it was a big draw as well as a huge success,” Department Director Dave Myers said. “I’m excited to see the attendance that next season brings, once more people know what we have to offer for winter recreation in Kewaunee County.”
The park hosted visitors from Wisconsin and 19 other states, said Jennifer Schneider, the county’s tourism coordinator and public information officer — including one family from Winter Park, Florida.
The previous record was 9,981 tubers and 977 skiers/snowboarders in 2013-14.
