The late December and early January snow gave Kewaunee County’s Winter Park tubing hill a good start to the season.

With the new Magic Carpet lift getting a good workout, the first two weekends at Winter Park set attendance records, County Administrator Scott Feldt told the County Board last week.

“Although this weekend is not going to look as good,” he added, referring to the warm spell that melted much of the area’s snow cover a few days after the County Board met. Still, Winter Park does have a snow-making machine.

Feldt praised the collaboration between Promotion & Recreation Director Dave Myers and Tourism/Public Information Coordinator Jennifer Schneider to do a ticket giveaway on social media.

“We did a little online type of promotion which reached out from likes and shares and the like to over 11,000 people,” Feldt said.

Visitors to Winter Park are now predominantly coming from outside Kewaunee County, he said – in fact one family from Winter Park, Florida, recently took in the local hill.

The tubing hill opened Dec. 29, and Feldt said being able to open during Christmas break was a plus.
