The Kewaunee County Zoological Society benefits from two special events planned this weekend.
North Water Bakery & Deli is staging the second annual “Paczki Fun 5k Run/Walk starting at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the bakery, 133 N. Water St., Algoma.
Individual early registration is $20, $25 on the day of event; families of up to five may register for $75, $100 on Saturday.
All proceeds from the Fun Run/Walk benefit the Zoological Society, which cares for animals and exhibits at the county’s Bruemmer Park Zoo.
The fourth annual Zoupart event is scheduled for 11 a.m.- 2 p.m. Sunday at the Kewaunee County Fairgrounds, 625 Third St., Luxemburg.
Local restaurants provide soup which attendees can taste from their handmade bowls. For $10 admission attendees get to choose a handmade bowl to take home, taste all soups and vote for their favorite.
The event also features a juried art show which includes art from Kewaunee County students grades 7-12. Art will also be displayed from students grades K-6. Highlighted are students from Algoma Grade School, Kewaunee Grade School, Kewaunee High School, Holy Rosary in Kewaunee, St. Paul’s in Luxemburg, St. Mary’s in Luxemburg, Luxemburg-Casco Intermediate School and L-C High School.
Participating restaurants and the soups they plan to provide include the Cannery Public Market, Dairy Dean’s Family Restaurant (chicken parmesan soup), Gibs on the Lake (creamed cabbage with smoked knockwurst soup), Hotel Stebbins (popcorn soup), Kunkel’s Korner (hamburger cabbage soup), Janda’s Bar and Grill (cheesy bratwurst), Kewaunee Piggly Wiggly (chili), Krazy Cow (chicken noodle soup), North Water Bakery & Deli (creamy wild rice and mushroom soup), NorthBrook Country Club (cream of potato and ham), The Rendezvous (bacon cheeseburger soup), Rose’s Family Restaurant (chicken dumpling soup), Stodola’s IGA (chili), Tippy Canoe’s (taco soup), WhyLee’s Bar and Grill (chicken booyah), and ZoZo’s Kitchen (smoked pork green chili verde). Menus are subject to change.
